Add or edit services on your scheduling page

Create and manage the appointment types your clients can book.

Appointment types are the services you offer in Acuity. Clients can choose from your available services when they book with you.

Also available: Create group classes for multiple clients to join at the same time.

Tip: If your services don't require specific booking times, consider offering Squarespace Commerce service products instead of Acuity appointment types.

Add an appointment type

There’s no limit to the number of appointment types you can add. Some appointment type settings are optional or can be hidden by customizing your scheduler.

To create a new appointment type:

  1. Open the Appointment Types panel.
  2. Click New Type of Service.
  3. Fill out your appointment type settings:
    • Required: Name the service, add a duration, and choose which calendars offer it.
    • Optional: Add a description, price, category, or image; attach intake forms; or make the appointment private.
  4. Click Create.

Edit an appointment type

To edit an existing appointment type:

  1. Open the Appointment Types panel.
  2. Find the appointment type you want to update and click Edit.
  3. Make your changes, then click Save.

Duplicate an appointment type

When you duplicate an appointment type, the original settings and availability group assignments carry over to the copy. However, automated email and text message notification settings will not carry over.

To make a copy of an existing appointment type:

  1. Open the Appointment Types panel.
  2. Next to the appointment type you want to duplicate, click Duplicate.
  3. Update the Name, and any other settings, if needed.
  4. Click Create.

Rearrange your appointment types

Your appointment types appear in both your account and on your scheduling page in the order they were created. Your appointment categories are listed alphabetically.

  • To rearrange your appointment types, drag and drop the appointment types after creating them.
  • To rearrange your appointment categories, add spaces in front of a category’s name to move it higher up the list.

What details can I add to my services?

When creating or editing an appointment type, use the fields outlined below to add details about the service.

Appointment type name

Add the name of your service. The appointment type name will display to clients on your scheduling page and in the automated notifications they receive after booking.

Appointment description

Add a description that displays below the service name. Long descriptions will be condensed with a Show All button for clients to expand the full description, or you can adjust your scheduling page settings to show full appointment descriptions.

Show a message after scheduling

Add a custom message that displays to clients on the confirmation page after booking. For example, you can add instructions on what to bring to the appointment, or thank the client for their business.

Appointment duration

To set an appointment type’s duration, enter a number of minutes between 1 and 1440 (24 hours). If you edit the duration later, both new and existing appointments of that type will be scheduled for the new duration.

Block off time before or after appointment

Set a number of minutes to automatically block off extra time on your calendar before or after an appointment. This extra padding builds breaks between appointments that aren't visible to clients.

Appointment price

Enter how much your appointment type costs, or leave the price blank so clients can book without paying. Changes to the price will only apply to new appointments booked moving forward.

Category

Group appointment types by category by selecting an existing category of appointment types, or click Create a new Category to add a new category.

Appointment type color

Choose the color used to display this appointment type on your Calendar page. You can select one of the default colors or set a custom color. Your appointment type colors aren’t shown to clients.

Appointment type image

Include an image to display with the appointment type on your scheduler. Make sure the image meets our formatting requirements.

Delete an appointment type

To delete an appointment type:

  1. Open the Appointment Types panel.
  2. Click Edit on the appointment type you want to remove.
  3. In the top-right, click Delete, then click Delete.

What happens after I delete an appointment type?

After you delete an appointment type:

  • You can't restore it.
  • No new appointments of that type can be booked.
  • Existing appointments will remain on your calendar, however, we won't send reminder emails or text messages.

What happens to my integrations and packages when I add a new service?

New appointment types aren't automatically added to your existing integrations or packages. To ensure your new service connects properly, update your existing settings:

  • Video conferencing - New appointment types don't automatically generate virtual meeting links. To add them, edit your video conferencing settings.
  • Packages, gift certificates, and subscriptions - New services aren't automatically redeemable. To let clients use existing packages or subscriptions for this service, update your package, gift certificate, or subscription settings.
