Article Summary
Insert client details, appointment times, payment links, and more in automated emails.
Tags are placeholders in your email templates. When Acuity sends an email, it automatically fills in appointment details like the client's name, appointment time, or payment link.

Insert tags using the email editor
Use the built-in toolbar to insert tags directly into your message without memorizing tag names. To add a tag:
- Open the Client Email panel.
- Select an email type (like Reminders) and click the template you want to edit.
- Click inside the template editor where you want to add the tag.
- Click Insert Field in the editor toolbar.
- Select a tag from the dropdown menu.
- Click Save template.
Type tags manually
If you prefer to type tags directly into the editor, review our list of tags to personalize client notifications and ensure you format them correctly:
- Enclose in percent signs: Place % at both the start and end of the tag. For example, %first% inserts the client's name, but first displays as standard text.
- Use lowercase only: Tags won't work if they contain capital letters. For example, %first% inserts the client's name, but %First% displays as standard text.
Include intake form answers
To include client answers or files in your automated emails, you can pull intake form answers or attachments into emails.
Can I add tags to any automated email templates?
No. You can't add tags to Appointment Receipt templates.
What happens when I update the email template?
If you update a template or reschedule an appointment, the new tags will only apply to any new emails sent after the change.
