Personalize text messages with tags

Insert client details, appointment times, and more in text message reminders.

Tags are placeholders in your text message reminder templates. When Acuity sends a text, it automatically fills in appointment details like the client's name, appointment time, or payment link.

Insert tags using the text editor

Use the built-in toolbar to insert tags directly into your message without memorizing tag names. To add a tag:

1. Open the Client Text Messages panel.
2. Select the text message template you want to edit.
3. Click inside the Custom message field where you want to add the tag.
4. Click the Insert Tag icon.
5. Select a tag from the menu.
6. Click Save.

Type tags manually

If you prefer to type tags directly into the editor, review our list of tags to personalize client notifications and ensure you format them correctly:

• Enclose in percent signs: Place % at both the start and end of the tag. For example, %first% inserts the client's name, but first displays as standard text.
• Use lowercase only: Tags won't work if they contain capital letters. For example, %first% inserts the client's name, but %FIRST% displays as %FIRST%.

Use raw URL tags for links

Because text messages can't display hyperlinks or buttons, use tags ending in instead of tags that embed links into text:

Do tags count towards the text messages character limit?

Yes. When tags expand into full text, that text counts towards the 300-character limit. Any text that exceeds that character limit is cut off.

Can I include intake form answers in text messages?

No. To share form details, include intake form answers or attachments in emails.

How do I include links in my text messages?

Text messages can't display hyperlinked text. To include links, use raw URL tags.
