Earn more by letting clients say thanks with a tip.
You can accept tips when clients pay in full, either on your scheduler or in person through the Acuity Scheduling Admin mobile app. Each has its own setting, so turning tipping on in one place doesn't turn it on in the other.
Accept tips on your scheduler
Clients can tip on your scheduler when all of these are true:
- Clients can pay in full at booking.
- You don’t use pay-what-you-want pricing.
- You've connected at least one payment processor.
Note : If you use PayPal, tips can only be added at the time of booking.
Turn scheduler tipping on or off
If tipping is turned on, your clients can leave tips on all your appointment types. It’s not possible to enable tipping for certain appointment types only.
To turn tipping on or off:
- Open the Payments panel.
- Click Payment at Booking.
- Switch the Clients can tip when they pay in full toggle On or Off.
- Click Save.
Tip amounts clients can choose
When adding a tip, clients choose from these options:
- No tip
- 15%
- 18%
- 20%
- Custom amount
The default selection on your scheduler is 18%.
With a custom amount, clients can tip up to 50% of the appointment cost.
How tips appear in your appointment details
When you review the appointment details, tips will appear below the total amount paid, listed as "Amount Extra."
Accept tips on the mobile app
Turn on tipping in the Acuity Scheduling Admin mobile app so clients can tip in person, after an appointment. This setting works separately from your scheduler's tipping setting.
Turn mobile app tipping on or off
Tipping is enabled by default when you connect a payment processor. To turn tipping on or off, you need to be the account owner or have Administrator access.
To turn tipping on or off:
- Tap Menu, then tap Payments.
- In the Mobile tipping section, tap Turn on or Turn off.
What's the default tip amount on mobile?
The default tip selection in the mobile app is 0%.
Can I include a tip when charging a client’s card?
Yes, but there's no separate line for adding a tip. Instead, update the Amount field to include both the cost of the appointment and the tip.
Can clients add a tip to an invoice?
No. It’s not possible to collect tips when your clients pay invoices.
Can clients tip on package, gift certificate, and subscription purchases?
No. Clients can't tip when they buy a package, gift certificate, or subscription. They can tip when they redeem their booking code for an appointment.
Note: If the client paid with a code redeemable for a total dollar amount, it’s not possible to accept a tip by charging their card later. If you charge the card, the amount you charge is applied to the appointment cost, and the same amount is refunded to their code balance. No tip is recorded.
Can clients tip with package, gift certificate, or subscription balances?
No. Clients can’t use a package, gift certificate, or subscription balance for tips. They can use their code for the appointment, then tip with a card.
Can clients tip when they make a partial payment?
No. It’s not possible for clients to tip when they pay less than the full cost of the appointment, like an initial deposit or a saved card to charge later. Instead, they can tip when they finish paying the full cost.
Can clients tip when they pay the balance due?
Yes. If they tip when they pay the remaining balance, the tip is calculated based on the full appointment cost.
For example, a client books a $100 appointment and pays a $20 deposit. When they pay the remaining $80 they owe, if they choose a 20% tip, the tip is $20, which is 20% of the full cost of the appointment.
