Clients can add a gratuity when booking an appointment or after paying in full.
Accepting tips is a great way to maximize your revenue and prompt clients to reflect on the excellent service you provide.
This guide explains how to enable tipping when clients are paying through your scheduler.
These settings also apply when clients pay for appointments through the Acuity Scheduling Client mobile app. Tipping settings in the Acuity Scheduling Admin mobile app are managed separately and are not controlled by the scheduler's tipping settings.
You can enable client tipping on the scheduler if you do all of the following:
- Give clients the option to pay in full at booking.
- Don’t use pay-what-you-want pricing.
- Connect at least one payment processor. Keep in mind, you can’t collect tips through PayPal for in-person payments. Additionally, PayPal tips can only be added while you or your client are booking the appointment.
Turn tipping on or off
To turn tipping on or off:
- In the Payment Settings panel, switch the Clients can tip when they pay in full toggle On or Off.
- Click Save.
If tipping is turned on, your clients can leave tips for all your appointment types. It’s not possible to enable tipping for certain appointment types only.
Tip amounts
When tipping, clients choose from these options:
- No tip
- 15%
- 18%
- 20%
- Custom amount
When using Acuity on the web or the Acuity Scheduling Client mobile app, the default tip selection is 18%.
When clients choose a custom amount, they can tip up to 50% of the value of the appointment cost.
Tips for packages, gift certificates, and subscriptions
It’s not possible for clients to:
- Tip when they purchase packages, gift certificates, or subscriptions. Instead, they can tip when they redeem their packages, gift certificates, or subscriptions for appointments.
- Use package, gift certificate, or subscription balances for tips. Instead, they can use their code for the appointment, then tip with a card.
Tips for deposits
It’s not possible for clients to tip when they pay less than the full cost of the appointment, such as when they pay an initial deposit or save a card to be charged later. Instead, they can tip when they finish paying the full cost.
Tips when clients pay outside the scheduler
The settings described in this guide control tipping when clients book through the scheduler. When clients pay in other ways, tips work differently:
Acuity Scheduling Admin mobile app
If you’re collecting payment through the Acuity Scheduling Admin mobile app, you need to configure your tipping settings in the mobile app.
Charging a client’s card through Acuity
If you’re using Acuity to charge a client’s card on file, there isn’t a separate line for adding a tip. Instead, update the Amount field to include both the cost of the appointment and the tip.
Invoices
It’s not possible to collect tips when your clients pay invoices.
