Text Message Reminder Notifications

Only our subscribers on the Growing Business or Powerhouse Player plans can send out both an email and text message reminder for appointments. Only one text is sent per appointment, and it's generated from the subject line of your initial reminder email, found under Business Settings > E-mail Settings > Reminders.

When you go to your E-mail Settings > Reminders, you'll see the default reminder, "24 Hours Before (E-mail & Text)", which you're welcome to modify the timing which it's sent, as well as the option to Add Extra Email Reminders.

 

What is the SMS Character Limit?

The character limit for a single SMS message is 160 characters, however most modern phones and networks support concatenation and will segment then rebuild messages up to 1600 characters.

When you send a SMS message over 160 characters the message will be segmented into 153 character segments and sent individually then rebuilt by the recipients device. For example a 161 character message will be sent as two messages, one with 153 characters and the second with 8 characters.

A Few Answers about Text Messages 

  • The subject line of the default reminder email is what the client receives as a text reminder. This can be customized under E-mail Settings.
  • Sending text messages can be enabled within your default Reminder (all other Reminders will send e-mails only). The Default Reminder (which sends the text) doesn't need to be the first one sent out, they can be listed in any chronological order.
  • If you want to be notified by text when an appointment is scheduled, canceled, or rescheduled, add your phone number to the Calendar Settings for your calendar.
  • If clients respond to a text message, they'll get an automated message back letting them know it's an automated service and to contact you directly.
  • Clients can opt out of receiving text messages by replying "STOP".
  • If you have a text reminder set to, for example, 48 hours, and your client schedules an appointment less than 48 hours before the appointment time, the client will not get the 48 hour reminder notification and this cannot be manually sent to them.

    • If you're not seeing your text reminders sent in the UK,  omit the '0' and the country code for text messages sent in the UK. In all phone fields inside of Acuity, you and your clients can input your mobile numbers without '0' or +44!

 All text messages sent by Acuity to your clients are free for you, and we at Acuity don't charge fees for text messages. Standard messaging rates apply for your clients receiving the text messages!
